Drapery Care Guidelines

Ensure your drapery investment will stand the test of time by following the correct care code for your fabric. Combine proper care with effective sunlight protection and your curtains will remain beautiful for years to come. In all cases, regular care will minimise the need for additional cleaning. Always exercise caution when spot cleaning. Test cleaning on a non-exposed surface. Avoid excess rubbing and abrasion.

F1: For use on specialty fabrics, including velvets.

• Dry clean only (P)
• Do not wash
• Do not iron
• Velvets should be steamed, not pressed
• Possible shrinkage 3%

F2: For use on viscose/acetate and other fabrics that may shrink like silk and wool.

• Dry clean only (P)
• Do not wash
• Warm iron
• Possible shrinkage 3%

F3: For use on printed or dyed cotton and linen fabrics, not coloured with pigments.

• Warm hand wash
• Do not bleach
• Do not tumble dry
• Gentle spin dry
• Dry without delay in shade
• Warm/hot iron if required
• Dry cleanable (P)
• Possible shrinkage 3%

F3A: For use on pigment printed or solid colour pigment and metallic prints on cotton and linen fabrics.

• Do not dry clean (X)
• Warm hand wash in mild detergents, such as wool mixes
• Do not bleach
• Do not tumble dry
• Gentle spin dry
• Drip dry in shade
• Hang curtains by their hooks to dry
• Warm iron
• Possible shrinkage 3%


F3B: For use with multi-purpose fabrics including velvets and velours.

• Do not dry clean (X)
• Warm hand wash in mild detergents, such as wool mixes
• Do not bleach
• Do not tumble dry
• Drip dry in shade
• Hang curtains by their hooks to dry
• Professional cleaning recommended
• Do not iron

F4: For use on polyester and/or polyester blend fabrics.

• Warm hand wash
• Do not bleach
• Do not rub or wring
• Drip dry in shade. Rehang whilst damp
• Warm iron if required
• Dry cleanable (P)
• Possible shrinkage 3%

F5A: For use with synthetic or natural yarns that may be affected by excessive heat.

• Cool hand wash
• Do not bleach
• Do not rub or wring
• Drip dry in shade. For best results, rehang whilst damp
• Cool iron only (max. 110°)
• Dry cleanable (P)
• Possible shrinkage 3%

F6: For use on acrylic foam-backed fabrics and flock coated fabrics of both man-made fibres and cotton that can be washed and dry cleaned.

Dry cleaning: Possible shrinkage 3%. Use specialist curtain dry cleaners, as recognised by the Soft Furnishing Industry Association.

For Perchloroethylene: Solvent temperature 18-20°C. No moisture, gentle cycle, moderate loading to minimise mechanical action.

One Bath, Dry cleaning Procedure: 3 minutes passing through the filter. Reduce mechanical action, 2 minutes, drain to the tank or still.

Two Stage Drying Procedure: 25 minutes drying at 55°C, then 6 minutes or until curtains are cool.

For White Spirit or Hydrocarbon: Standard cleaning practices are appropriate. Hang curtains upon removal from machine. Warm iron/press on fabric side only – do not iron/press coated side.

Washing: Curtains are heavy when wet. Professional wet cleaning recommended. Do not clean in a domestic washing machine. Hand wash in cool to warm water (maximum 40°C). Mild detergents, such as wool mixes, are recommended. Do not bleach or soak, rub or wring. Drip dry in shade. Do not tumble dry. Hang curtains by their hooks to avoid sides touching – do not use pegs. Warm iron/press on fabric side only – do not iron/press coated side.

F6W: For use on acrylic foam-backed fabrics and flock coated fabrics of both man-made fibres and cotton that cannot be dry cleaned, such as pigment printed arid metallic prints.

PILE FABRIC

Regular Care

• Protect from direct sunlight.
• Vacuum regularly using low suction.
• Rotate reversible cushions regularly.
Cleaning: Do not remove cushion covers for separate cleaning even though they do have zippers. Clean with hot water extraction machine (hot). Professional cleaning recommended. Do not use dishwashing or laundry detergents. Use only upholstery detergent. Do not wet filling. Dry in shade away from direct heat and sunlight. Gently vacuum to restore pile. Allow to dry thoroughly before reuse.
OR: May be dry cleaned with an on-site dry cleaning machine. Professional cleaning recommended. Do not wet filling with solvent. Extract solvent thoroughly after application. Do not scrub with stiff brush.
Caution: Exhaust solvent vapour outside building. Provide adequate ventilation during cleaning and drying. Allow to dry thoroughly before reuse. Avoid use of room during drying period.
OR: May be shampoo cleaned using upholstery shampoo. Do not use dishwashing or laundry detergents. Do not wet filling. Do not scrub with stiff brush. Gently vacuum to restore pile. Dry in shade away from direct heat and sunlight. Allow to dry thoroughly before use.
Spot Cleaning: Treat spills and stains as soon as possible. Gently scrape any soil or mop any liquid from the surface of the fabric. Do not scrub. Apply proprietary cleaning agents strictly according to instructions to remove the residue of the spill. Do not saturate the fabric or interior with water or other cleaning liquids. May be spot cleaned with dry cleaning solvent.

INCLUDING PVC AND LEATHERETTE, SHEET PLASTIC AND WOVEN PLASTIC.

Regular Care

• Protect from direct sunlight.
• Vacuum regularly using low suction.
• Rotate reversible cushions regularly.
Cleaning: Do not clean with hot water extraction machine. Do not clean with an on-site dry cleaning machine. Wipe clean with a clean cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use abrasive powder or paste cleaners. Do not wet excessively. A soft bristle brush may be used to remove ingrained soil. Avoid scratching by gentle brushing. Wipe with a clean cloth dampened with water to remove residual detergent. Dry in shade away from direct heat.
OR Spot Cleaning: Clean as above. Persistent marks may need solvents. Check the effect of any solvent on a hidden area of the cover.
